2022 ACG Advanced Leadership Development Program Participants
Elevated Leadership Tools for Advanced Leaders
The goal of the program is to provide mid-career physicians (10-20 years post-fellowship completion) who are ACG members, with the opportunity to further develop comprehensive leadership skills, and provide advocacy training. The program will develop a cohesive group of peer leaders who will serve as problem-solving consultants for each other and the College. The program will enhance the ability of these individuals to:
- Broaden their leadership skills
- Learn how to embrace and become agents of change
- Elevate colleagues and trainees through mentorship and sponsorship
- Influence practice and policy development on a local, regional, and national level
- Enhance their flexibility and adaptability as leaders
- Understand how to influence others
- Develop strategic thinking skills and intentionality when leading
- Recognize the importance of work-life integration and the power of gratitude
- Become comfortable with vulnerability

Participants in the Advanced Leadership Development Program will be paired with experienced College leaders for ongoing 1:1 counsel/advice during the year of the applicant’s program participation. If the mentoring relationship is successfully, we envision the possibility of informal contact in the future, if mutually agreeable between participant and mentor. Past Presidents of the ACG and ACG Executive Team Members will serve as the pool of mentors for this group.
To facilitate a positive, interactive learning environment and networking, the course would be limited to 15 attendees. Attendees would have to be nominated by either their Chief of GI, ACG Governor, Board of Trustee Member, ACG Committee Chair, or Partner, owner /co-owner, or another senior managing role in a private practice setting. Applicants will submit an application, which will include a personal statement of interest in physician leadership. Applications would be accepted from the following ACG members:
- College Members 10-20 years post completion of GI fellowship training
- A demonstrated trajectory of leadership roles in their private practice or academic institution.
- Based in the United States
Applicants will need to submit their curriculum vitae, personal statement of interest in participating in the program and a letter of nomination from the Chief of GI, ACG Board of Trustee Member, ACG Committee Chair, or Partner, owner/co-owner, or another senior managing role in a private practice setting.
Applications will be reviewed by the ACG Institute and will be notified regarding their inclusion in the program (there are no registration fees for the program – it is by invitation only).

Eligibility & Evaluation Criteria:
To choose the recipients, the Institute will assess the degree to which the applicant meets the eligibility criteria of the ACG Advanced Leadership Development Program. Applicants who are ACG members, based in the United States, and mid-career (10-20 years post fellowship completion) will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Strong statements of background experience and skills development that demonstrate a strong interest in Advanced Leadership training and Public Policy
- A strong letter of nomination from the 1) Chief of GI at your institution 2) ACG Board of Trustee Member, 3) ACG Committee Chair or 4) Partner, owner/co-owner, or other senior managing role in a private practice setting, who has direct knowledge of the applicant’s qualifications and leadership potential.
The ACG Institute aims to support a diverse group of applicants, with respect to private practice and university-based practitioners, and geographic dispersion.
